Anna is a client of mine which I met within my current position as an assistant in nursing in the community. Initially I would help out with tasks around the house. Although, everytime without fail she would make me a massive spread for lunch before I left work. She never lets the girls who help her leave on empty stomachs. No matter how many times you politely decline, she always ends up getting her way and you roll out of her house filled with goodness.
Anna found out that I was interested in cooking and that’s when she started to share her skills with me. Anna has been a housewife for over 65 years, cooking delicious meals for her husband Leo every night.
My apple pie was inspired by Anna, she was who taught me how to stew apples. Once I started doing it by myself that’s when I thought of the apple pie recipe.
Anna can add flavour to the simplest of dishes. The other day she just whipped up a beetroot salad out of nowhere which was absolutely delicious.
As I can be a fussy eater sometimes Anna will say to me “how do you expect to be a cook if you don’t like all these foods”. She always makes me try it even when I say I don’t like it. So far I have liked all the foods she’s made me try after years of being adamant that I don’t like them. She now hides things such as eggplant in her dishes by chopping them very small without me knowing. Later telling me the ingredients after I have already said I’ve enjoyed it! She can be sneaky like that.
I’ve spoken to Anna about her being a part of a series called cooking with Anna at home and she is excited to get in the kitchen and show you guys her recipes. She has lived and traveled many places and has lots of culture to share. I’m excited that she is happy to be apart of this journey with me.
